Shou Sugi Ban is a centuries-old Japanese method of preserving or antiquing wood. It uses fire to treat the surface creating a dramatic look. Tempering the wood increases its durability and fire resistance. Though not totally bug “proof” it also makes the product “less tasty” so they look elsewhere.
